Celebrations, renovations, shopping, gifts, and much much more!

The last 12 days have been a whirlwind! We’ve been running basically 24 – 7. Brendan’s been working very hard on renovations. He’s fixed some walls, painted, moved the laundry room, built some shelves, and the list goes on. He and my dad are installing railings on our staircases this week, building a closet or two, and God only know what else! He knows how much I love organization so he’s trying to get everything ready before they come home. I should mention that there is no way we could ever get it all done, but my lovely family has offered (or insisted) on finishing all of the renovations and decorating for us while we are in Africa. My sister-in-law is a very talented artist and will be decorating the kids’ rooms. You will understand why this is the best gift our children will ever get when you see the completed project! Their mama was not blessed with that kind of talent so we are all grateful for her generous gift

I’ve done some shopping, cleaning, organizing, reading, made many lists, and, of course, lots of talking! Prior to the shower, I decided to take a few pictures of the many gifts we had received. I’ve got a big family so it didn’t take long for people to start sorting through their boxes and offer us their goodies. On Thursday our friend, Rhonda, lent me her baby hawk for the trip and gave us a gorgeous dress and some awesome books! All very exciting!

My mom and sisters threw us an adoption party/shower last night. Tons of friends stopped by to gawk at our children’s pictures, have a drink and a bite to eat, and wish us well. I should mention that they all came with beautiful gifts in hand as well. The kids got toys, books, adorable clothing, stuffies, and much much more! Some people even gave us cash and gift cards to use as needed. Our in-laws’ families have been particularly generous and we are so grateful to both of them. If ever you read this, thank you. The generosity of our loved ones has truly been overwhelming and we are so humbled by their love and support.

Enough of my blabbing though…let’s get to the good stuff! The first three pictures are last weeks’ purchases and a few gifts, the following three are some shots of the party, and the final one is our gifts from last night. Hmmmm…I think we’re ready to go 😉 Usually mess and disorganization stresses me out, but we’re both feeling pretty happy staring at all the disorganized piles of stuff tonight.

Cousins in traditional SA clothing

February 25, 2010 at 11:38 pm (Uncategorized)

I am so excited to be back on a blog that posts some pictures! I’ve wanted to post these pictures for a while now…even before the referral. My sister’s in-laws spent December in South Africa celebrating their cousin’s wedding. We were, of course, incredibly jealous but also very excited that some of our extended family had the opportunity to spend time in our future children’s birth country. We were also thrilled to see all of the beautiful gifts my sister’s family received, which included beautiful traditional SA clothing!

These sweethearts are so incredibly excited to meet their new cousins! They’ve said many prayers for them (long before the referral too), chosen toys for them, asked dozens of questions about them, and made welcome cards for them! Here they are in their gorgeous new clothes…who would have guessed they would put these on for their auntie only days before we got the referral 🙂 It’s a beautiful, small world.
